there's something wrong with my cat
I can't really afford to bring her to the vet but does anyone know what the standard rate is for just an appointment?
And also, can anyone recommend a good vet in the Peterborough area, perferably somewhere in town.
Thanks a lot

not loving cats so much right now...

hey - anyone still out there? Well, I'm having some real cat issues here and I wondered if anyone could help me out. I've been really busy with school lately, so I haven't been home as much. I guess my cat is mad at me - but how does she tell me? By PEEING ON MY BED. Disgusting.

So I've steam-cleaned and prosolved and febreezed the mattress and she's gone and done it 3 times in total. I've been giving her much more attention when I'm home and she had been good this week until last night - when I went to bed I noticed a lovely wet spot right beside my pillow. Not fun to have to get up and wash all my linens at 1am.

Anyway, does anyone know of any products that actually work to clean the stain and discourage her from peeing there again? Or alternatively, do any of you lovely Peterborough folk know where I could find a CHEAP mattress to replace the pee one?

Hey folks, I just joined this community and I am excited. Everyone has the cutest pets. I wanted to talk about my cat: Mitra. She is insane but can cuddle with me for hours. I don't know why, but she seems to like cuddling with me more than with my fiance. Heh. Anyway, I am a third year at Trent and my fiance and I got the cat 3 months ago. I don't really know how old she is, according to the people we got her from 5-6 months, but her size makes me think she is older.
Cheers for now!

VHS lives on--just barely

By Daniel Terdiman
Staff Writer, CNET News.com

Don't tell English inventor James Larsson that a VCR is useless.

He's got an idea what to do with that aging video gear--turn it into an automatic cat feeder, using the VCR's timer to dispense food on a regular schedule.

Writing for Make magazine, Larsson described how an old VCR--assuming its timer was still operational--could be turned into a "programmabowl VCR" designed to ensure that pets be fed on time in their owners' absence.

Unfortunately the article doesn't say how- I think for that you have to buy Make magazine. Still interesting.

What are the signs and symptoms of fleas? I tried to look it up on the Internet but I just got too many hits on how to treat them, not how to figure out if Gulliver has them in the first place.

Interesting Tidbit from a Vet about cats

So a while ago Gulliver (my cute but stupid kitty) drank dishwater. A.S.P.C.A has a helpline with Vets, paid for by manufactures, to help you if you pet ingests a product (I found it through the emergency 1-800 number on the back of the Ivory bottle- I should have written down the number the recording reads to you, sorry).

Anyway, the vet who helped us, Paul Eubig DVM, told me that cats can gag or vomit based on the taste in their mouth, and made me try to give Gully some food after diluting it with water.

Don't know how this information will help you but it's helped me even since the incident. Just keep it in the back of your head.

Addedum: The number is 1-800-345-4735, but of course you should still keep the emergency number of your vet in easy access at all times.

oh happiness! a blatant oppurtunity to brag about my babies!! :)

ok i'll stop.
my name is beth. i'm 22 and in my fifth year at a 2 year college (what? i have ADD! :) anyway, the only things that keep me sane are my babies. :)

right now i have my cat- Puffin. She's a beautiful Maine Coone (or so our theory runs... according to the vet, anyway)... she's my beauty. She's 14 years old but she acts like she's 10. She sleeps plenty and eats plenty (which gets annoying when she eats too much and then proceeds to barf it all in the living room. I hate that!) but the minute i get home, she's right at the door, wrapping her sleek self around my ankles. whenever i seat myself somewhere, it's a matter of minutes before my Puffin is in my lap. She always knows when i need to be cheered up. I recently broke up with my fiance (well, he broke up with me but that's a story for a different community) so I've been a bit bummed lately and Puffin always comes around when I'm all the tears.

Prettyness abounds. me and my babies.Collapse )

i have a bunch of pics that i took of my Spyke-ness but i have yet to get them developed.

more when i do.

xo xo

I guess i'll jump on the bandwagon here......my name is Laura and I'm a student at fleming college. I have two dogs (one of which is shared with my parents) and a cat. I love having pets - and am slightly animal-obsessed - I couldn't imagine not having at least one.

My dogs are chocolate labs - a male and a female - Bailey, who is 9 and Jade, who is 6. They're gettin' up there. Bailey is constantly eating garbage and getting sick, which usually results in numerous vet bills. And the two of them decided to give me a special treat a couple of weeks ago by getting sprayed by a skunk!!

My cat is a solid black bicolor ragdoll...I got her last january - she was a retired breeder. She's 3 and basically the sweetest cat ever!! She walks up to me and flops down on her back to get cuddled and when I pick her up, she goes totally limp like a ragdoll (hence the clever breed name!!)

Ok, so here are some pictures. Try to handle the cuteness :p
